Key developments
The Sanaa Center’s 2 October analysis described Houthi pressure on western and southern Taiz and efforts to cut roads connecting the city with other government-held areas. It warned that damage to those links threatened food deliveries, medical supplies and civilian movement.
Yemen’s presidential council announced on 4 October an operation to retake Houthi-held territory, CNA reported. Sources cited by AFP said Houthi forces had cut an important route between Taiz and Aden. The announcement of an offensive does not establish that its objectives were achieved.
The Guardian reported families displaced by the renewed fighting whose children had left school to work. Its 28 September account illustrates the effect on household income and education; it should not be read as a complete count of displaced families.
